Galleri Testing FAQ’s

  • Galleri is a multi-cancer early detection blood test that detects more than 50 types of cancer, many of which are not commonly screened for today.

  • Galleri looks for tumor DNA signals present in the blood that may be associated with cancer at the time of your blood draw. If a cancer signal is detected (a positive test result) Galleri results can point to where in the body the cancer is coming from to help your healthcare provider guide next steps. A positive Galleri test may lead to a cancer diagnosis with additional testing, but a false positive Galleri test is also possible. In addition, Galleri does not detect all cancers, as not all cancers shed DNA into the blood stream.

  • Galleri is recommended for use in adults with an elevated risk for cancer, such as those aged 50 or older, or in individuals with a strong family history of cancer. Galleri should be used in addition to guideline-recommended cancer screenings, such as mammography, colonoscopy, prostate specific antigen (PSA), cervical cancer screening or lung cancer screening. Galleri is intended to be used in addition to, and not replace, other cancer screening tests your healthcare provider recommends.

  • Family history is only one of many risk factors associated with cancer development. Lifestyle factors contribute to cancer risk- such as eating habits, weight, alcohol intake, exercise, living or working environments, age and genetics, and many others. Talk to your healthcare provider to determine whether the Galleri test is right for you. If you are over 50, even without a family history of cancer, Galleri may be considered.

  • Galleri is not intended to replace guideline-recommended cancer screening tests. Unfortunately, 71% of cancer deaths are due to cancers that we do not screen for. Galleri is designed to detect many types of cancer, including cancer we are not currently able to screen for, such as ovarian and pancreatic and others.

Using Galleri alongside existing cancer screening programs, such as mammograms and colonoscopies, is expected to increase early cancer detection. In addition to detecting many cancers that lack recommended screenings, the Galleri test may also find cancers missed during routine screening, cancers in individuals who were non-adherent to current cancer screening tests, cancers that occurred during screening intervals, or cancers that occurred in individuals who lack access to existing screening tests.

  • The Galleri test for Ms.Medicine Members is $970 through the Ms.Medicine web site ($949 for the test and blood draw fee), and $1270 for Non-Members ( $949 test, blood draw fee and consult fee)

  • As with all new technology and new testing (think Cologuard, 3D mammography) insurance is not yet covering the Galleri test . GRAIL is actively pursuing coverage from various sources; however, this process takes time. Although the Galleri test is not covered by insurance, you may submit the cost of the test, blood draw and consult to your FSA or HSA.

  • Galleri must be ordered by a clinician or through a practice that is offering the test. We believe the Galleri test is best ordered by a clinician that you have an established relationship with, such as your Ms.Medicine primary care provider.

Ms.Medicine is excited to be the first network of concierge providers to offer Galleri. All Ms.Medicine providers at all locations are offering Galleri to both Member and Non-Member patients through the Ms.Medicine scheduling site.

After you have reviewed information about Galleri, and or participated in a webinar about this test, you may schedule through the MsMedicine scheduling website. Simply choose your provider and location, identify if you are a member or non-member, and select an appointment time.

If you are a Ms.Medicine practice Member, you will schedule a 15-minute blood draw appointment and pay ($970).

For Non-Members, Ms.Medicine requires a consult in advance of ordering Galleri. A consult allows the Ms.Medicine provider to review your medical history, discuss the value and limitation of the test, determine if the test is appropriate for you, and determine who will manage and work if you receive a positive test.

If you are a Non-Member, you will schedule a 45-minute consult through the website and pay ($1270) .

Beating cancer
starts with knowing
you have it

Finding cancer early is important to improve treatment outcomes and survival.

The vast majority of cancers show no symptoms until later stages, when treatment options may be limited.

Today, many cancers are found too late when outcomes are often deadly.

Routine screening is recommended for only 5 cancers today

Cancer Type

Method

1.  Breast

Mammography

2. Cervical

Cervical cytology (Pap Smear), high risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV) test

3. Colorectal

Colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, fecal tests

4. Lung

Low dose computed tomography

5. Prostate

Prostate specific antigen (PSA) test

Only 1 in 4 cancers are routinely screened for today

71% of cancer deaths are caused by cancers not commonly screened for.

Breakthrough Test Performance

  • SENSITIVITY: True Positive Rate

This means that the Galleri test reported a “Cancer Signal Detected” result correctly in approximately 52 individuals out of 100 who actually had cancer (but will miss 48 of them).

  • SPECIFICITY: True Negative Rate

This means that the Galleri test reported a “Cancer Signal Not Detected” result correctly in approximately 99 individuals out of 100 who do not actually have cancer. This means a negative test is a true negative 99.5% of the time.

  • FALSE POSITIVE RATE

This means that the Galleri test will report a “Cancer Signal Detected” incorrectly in 1 in every 200 tests run.

  • CANCER SIGNAL ORIGIN ACCURACY

This means when a cancer signal was detected in an individual who actually had cancer, the first Cancer Signal Origin was correctly predicted 89 of 100 times.

Finding cancer early can make all the difference.

When cancers are diagnosed early before they have had the chance to spread, the overall 5-year survival rate is 4x higher

than when they are diagnosed in later stages
